Assessment

Assessment

In accordance with our educational ethos of bringing out a student’s own wisdom, our assessment methods are focused on promoting independence of study and a deeper understanding, as opposed to surface learning. In order to ensure that assessment plays an active role in the learning process, there is an emphasis on ongoing formative assessment. This refers to unmarked formal and informal assessment that’s carried out to give tutors a focus for detailed feedback to support the learning process. The majority of summative (graded) assessments also contain formative elements. Reflective self-assessment and peer assessment also plays a central role.

Our assessments

  • Link directly to the intended learning outcomes
  • Use appropriate methods to test core aspects of what is taught and learned
  • Emphasise the development of deep learning and critical reflection
  • Support every student’s opportunity to learn by using a variety of assessment methods
  • Provide useful real world experience (where relevant)
