Vision and Values

Acupuncture Courses in England

Devising a Mission Statement, and Vision and Values shouldn’t simply be a case of ticking boxes.  Working through these documents at the start of our course design really gave us the time to think about what we actually stand for; our ethos and our attitudes.  Our Values particularly reflect our student focus and the regard with which we view all of our students, both past, present, and future.  Enjoy!

Vision

  • To promote health through education and clinical practice
  • To provide the highest quality classical acupuncture educational experience, with a focus on the five elements
  • To play an important role in presenting a positive characterisation of the acupuncture profession

Values

At the Academy we value the qualities of the Five Elements:

VALUE THIS MEANS THAT WE:
火 Fire Inspiration, insight, compassion, mindfulness, propriety, passion, joy, appropriate openness
  • Inspire by sharing our love of practice through our teaching
  • Care deeply about our students, our work, our team and our profession; always going the extra mile
  • Make learning fun
  • Promote the ability to be truly present in the moment with patients; to see, hear, to ask and feel effectively and therapeutically
  • Are open to scrutiny, and open to sharing our institutional practice with educational colleagues
木 Wood Humanity, vision, imagination, direction, benevolence
  • Push back frontiers within education to achieve the highest quality learning experience – using methods and resources creatively
  • Forge partnerships in communities to provide affordable access to acupuncture treatment, which also benefits students’ learning opportunities
  • Are adaptable and flexible – responding to changes within healthcare, the profession, research, pedagogical advances – adapting the programme, its delivery and evaluation accordingly
土 Earth Sincerity, integrity, intention, clear thought, empathy
  • Keep up our own study, and facilitate and encourage our staff to do likewise
  • Root our teaching firmly in practice by teaching in our areas of strength
  • Mean what we say; own our statements
  • Do what we say we’re going to do
  • Be clear in our information, at all levels
水 Water Wisdom, instinctual power, aligned will, courage and wisdom
  • Provide a stimulating and challenging environment in order to facilitate the maturity of innate will to wisdom
  • Create a space for a collective consciousness to promote this classical tradition, as well as a positive awareness of acupuncture
  • Find our way around obstacles and reach our goals by adopting the principle of ‘wu wei’; knowing when to act and when not to act, and moving forward with gentle persistence
金 Metal Fairness, balance, equality, respect and embodiment
  • Put patients and their welfare at the heart of all we do
  • Search for feedback, listen & reflect, and act on it appropriately
  • Value people’s time, and provide equality of opportunity in all our policies and practices
  • Value diversity; the rights and the potential of others; the differing life experience that each student and staff member brings, and the different kinds of practitioner each student will become
  • Embody these values in everything we do, and encourage others to do the same
  • Let go of what is not working, making space for new inspiration
